One of the best ways we can heal is by getting the thoughts that crowd our minds out on to paper. Let’s face it there is a lot going on up there, we are constantly thinking, analysing and sometimes it can be very overwhelming. By letting the thoughts out on to a piece of paper you can let go of things that we shouldn’t be so worried about. It clears the mind so you can focus on things that you love and feel happy.
The best thing about keeping a journal is that it’s all yours. You never have to show it to anyone. You can have your deepest and darkest thoughts written out and you don’t have to ever read them again. When you write out these thoughts it releases them and you find clarity. You’ll be surprised some days with what you write out, you’ll find out things about yourself that you didn’t know before.
You might be thinking but how do I know what to write about? Where do I start? Let’s start with types of journaling you can do.
There are a few different types of journals that you can have or combine into one. Here are a few examples.
Expressive – getting everything off your chest, letting go of thoughts that are driving you crazy.
Affirmation – Setting intentions for your day or how you want to feel. EG – Today is going to be….. OR I am……
Prompts – Having writing prompts that you can answer honestly. This is great for self-discovery.
You can go with one of these or have a journal that combines all of them. Now that we know the different types you can have, here are some prompts and examples to get you started.
